  • December Athletes of the Month named - aom dec 15-sliderThe Mules Booster Club named Poplar Bluff High School wrestler Josh Lewis and swimmer Taylor Norwood the December Athletes of the Month. Sophomore Norwood, an all-state swimmer, has performed several state cuts and holds multiple school and meet records. In addition to being an exceptional athlete, she is an incredibly “smart kid,” maintaining an 11.143 weighted GPA, according to her coach Elizabeth Lewis-Muse. Josh Lewis, a junior, is 15:3 so far this wrestling season, and was heavyweight champion during the Tiger Classic in December at Cape Central.   • Booster Club names November Athletes of the Month - aom dec 15-sliderThe Poplar Bluff Mules Booster Club has selected soccer player Jeffry Hardin and cross-country runner Katie Sliger as Athletes of the Month for November. Sliger was the Poplar Bluff Invitational and Jackson Invitational sophomore champion. She made All-Conference, All-District and was also a state qualifier. She is the first female at Senior High to break 20 minutes in the MSHSAA Class 4 state meet – a 5k. In the classroom, Sliger maintains an 11.40 GPA, including honor classes. “One of the hardest working athletes I know, (Sliger) is extremely self-disciplined and goal oriented,” cross country coach Beth Lewis-Muse said. Hardin, a junior, scored 19 goals and 14 assists during the 2015 season, adding to his career total of 63 goals and 38 assists. He was an All-State honorabl
  • Mr. and Ms. October - aom oct 15-sliderThe Poplar Bluff Mules Booster Club has named high school softball player Shelby Sievers and football player Steven Haley the October Athletes of the Month. Haley, a senior, is only seven tackles short of the school record with 131. His stats include 21 tackles for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles and two interceptions. In the classroom, Haley maintains an 11.100 GPA, and scored a 31 on his ACTs. “He’s a great person and player,” said Mules Football coach Mark Barousse, “the kind of teammate you want to have.” Sophomore Sievers holds the record for hits in a single season with 50, runs batted in with 34, and extra base hits with 21. Her batting average is .543 and her pitching record is 12-3. Academically, Sievers is ranked 20th in her class with a 10.643 GPA. “She e

  • September Athletes of the Month named - aom sept 15-sliderThe Poplar Bluff Mules Booster Club selected Girls Tennis star Stephanie Hobbs and Football quarterback Tristen Francisco as Athletes of the Month for September. A four-year letterman, Francisco has a career record of 79 completions and 1,489 yards with 137 attempts. The Poplar Bluff High School senior has 50 rushes for 273 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions. In addition, he has thrown 19 touchdowns. According to head coach Mark Barousse, Francisco has a high IQ on the football field, with a 10.0 grade point average to boot. Hobbs, also a senior, has a 10-5 record in singles and 5-10 in doubles for the current season, while maintaining a 10.738 GPA in the classroom.
