The Mules Booster Club has named Khelie Spence and Shemyron Townsend of Poplar Bluff High School the October Athletes of the Month, presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors.

Shemyron, a senior football player, ended the season with 1,500 yards of offense, 820 rushing yards, 570 kickoff return yards and 100 punt return yards. He completed over 300 all-purpose yards against Oakville.

According to his coach, David Sievers, Shemyron is a very versatile player who “started all season on both sides of the ball.”

Khelie, a junior volleyball player, racked up 204 kills, 50 blocks and 25 aces during the 2018 season, adding to her career totals of 342 kills, 83 blocks and 25 aces. She was also named a 2017 Academic All-State, and maintains an 11.107 grade point average.

“Her talent is something that does not come around very often,” said Amanda Lance, Khelie’s coach. “Along with her profound talents, her personality and character are as well top notch. She is always smiling and pleasant to be around.”
