Superintendent's Message

Dr. Scott Dill

It is my genuine pleasure to welcome you to Poplar Bluff Schools. It is somewhat difficult to fathom, with the last echoes of the summer school dismissal bell still echoing in the halls that we are on the cusp of another school year – a year laden with potential and purpose – a year overflowing with the potential for growth and learning.

As I enter into this school year, my 23rd as a professional educator, I have taken time to reflect on my core values – the beliefs that drive me. When I began this journey, I was a starry-eyed idealist, full of optimism. Along the way, I have experienced the peaks and valleys of this business, a business that has the potential to break your heart or to enlighten your soul every single day. I have seen people at their best – I have tried to help when they are at their worst. Through it all, I have retained my starry-eyed idealism and my optimism.

I still believe.

I believe in teachers. I believe in the passion and artistry of teaching. I believe we are the difference makers. I believe that ALL of our students can learn at high levels. I believe that relationships matter. I believe that we have the collective capacity to solve any problem we may encounter. I believe we are creating a brighter future for our kids. I believe in you, and I am glad you are a part of our school family.

Our mission in the Poplar Bluff School District is – Achieving excellence through learning: Every child, every hour, every day. Those simple words serve as a clarion call to action for educators and parents to do whatever it takes to ensure that all of our students are learning at high levels. We must work collaboratively to ensure learning occurs for every child, every hour, every day.

We enter into this good and important work with hearts full of love and hope. We commence this work with clarity of purpose and with a complete understanding of the importance to every child, every hour, every day.

I am honored to serve as your Superintendent. I will endeavor daily to be worthy of the trust, and the responsibility extended to me. I will give to each of you the fullest measure of whatever time and talent I have been granted in this life.

Onward and upward,
~Dr. Scott Dill
