Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Days

Our district is committed to ensuring that learning continues, even when school buildings are closed due to inclement weather.  To minimize disruptions to the school calendar and avoid the need to add extra days at the end of the year, we've implemented Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Days.

What are AMI Days?

AMI stands for Alternative Methods of Instruction.  These days provide students with the opportunity to learn from home when hazardous weather conditions force school closures. Instead of a traditional snow day, students will engage in learning activities provided by their teachers.

How do AMI Days Work?

  1. Inclement Weather Closure: When severe weather threatens, the Superintendent will decide if an AMI day will be used. This decision will be communicated to families as early as possible.
  2. Notification: Announcements of AMI days will be made through the district website, Remind notifications, social media channels, and local news stations.
  3. Student Learning: On an AMI day, students are expected to complete assignments provided by their teachers. These assignments may include:
    • Online Learning Activities: Many assignments will be accessible through each student's Google Classroom.
    • Take-Home Materials: For students with limited internet access, alternative take-home materials will be provided.
  4. Teacher Support: Teachers will be available during designated hours to assist students with their assignments and answer any questions they may have. Contact information and availability will be shared by your student's teacher.
  5. Assignment Submission: We understand that not all students have reliable internet access. Students will have three school days after returning to campus to submit their completed AMI work.
  6. Grading and Attendance: AMI assignments will be graded. If work is not submitted within three school days of returning, students will be marked absent for the designated AMI day(s).

Why AMI Days?

AMI days are designed to:

  • Maintain Consistent Learning: Ensure that instruction continues uninterrupted, even when school buildings are closed.
  • Minimize Calendar Disruptions: Avoid extending the school year due to weather-related closures.
  • Provide Flexibility: Offer alternative learning methods to accommodate students with varying access to technology.
