The Mules Booster Club has named Sophie Rowland and Wyatt Murphy of Poplar Bluff High School the April Athletes of the Month, presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors.
Wyatt, a senior track runner, is currently ranked first in the Class 5A Division for the 200 meter with a 22.05 and sixth in the 100 meter with a 10.92. In 2016, he was a four-time All-State runner in the 100 meter relay. He is also ranked sixth in his class with a 11.347 grade point average and has recently been accepted into the United State Air Force Academy.
“Wyatt is an outstanding young man, well-liked by his peers and faculty,” stated Kent Keith, athletic director. “He will be greatly missed when he graduates.”
Sophie, a junior soccer player, has 11 goals and seven assists this season. She holds the season record as well as the all-time record for assists. In the classroom, she maintains an 11.486 GPA.
Her coach, Rusty Crafton, commented that Sophie is a “great competitor and solid player for us on the field. Off the field she is ranked No. 1 in her class in academics.”
