The Rotary Club of Poplar Bluff has provided financial backing for the Rotary ‘Good Habits’ Store at Lake Road Elementary for a decade long – rewarding punctual, well-behaved, high-performing students.
Representatives from the civic organization donated another $1,500 toward the operation on Thursday, Oct. 6. The funding will be used to stock toys, games, art supplies, snacks and clothing items in a makeshift store set up for students to spend dollars/points earned.
“Poplar Bluff Rotary has stood behind Lake Road since the Rotary Store began 10 years ago. We hope to do our best and continue to support them," said Dawn Hicks, Rotary Club president. "The kids benefit from learning how to buy and save money and points as well as getting rewarded for their hard work and attendance."
The Rotary Club initially adopted the elementary school in 2012, establishing the Rotary Store in the gymnasium each month as a way to improve attendance and reduce behavior referrals so educators can focus on academic achievement.
According to Principal Rondi Vaughn, the concept works as an ancillary to the positive behavioral interventions and supports program under which Lake Road has achieved gold-level implementation for the past six consecutive years.
